Canadian Pacific Railway locomotives

Canadian Pacific Railway locomotivesAt the end of the 19th century the Canadian Pacific Railway introduced lightening-quick 4-4-2 locomotives, with seven-foot-high driving wheels, that would leg it out at more than a mile-a-minute between Ottawa and Montreal.

CPR engineers indulged in a little unoffical competition with the "official competition" - the Cananda Atlantic Railway - in a side-by-side race into Montreal. Canadian Pacific Railway's 4-6-0 locomotives became the company's mainstay motive power for the next half-century.
